Editor's Note

Margery Allingham wrote 'The Black Tent' late in 1937. It would appear that when the story was finished she sensed that it was not suitable for the Strand Magazine, in the 'Thirties the principal outlet for her longer stories.

She was at that time busier than ever before and the next six years were made additionally hectic by preparation for war and then by the war itself. Perhaps she forgot the story, certainly she never mentioned it or did anything with it and it was not published until 1987 when it appeared in an anthology, The Ladykillers.
